Helping the Blue Prince
Curious to see what we tackled during the development of the indie hit Blue Prince? (published by Raw Fury) Read on below!āØ
As we all know
Small changes can sometimes make a huge difference. We were tasked with a few corrections that havenāt been seen by many, since the gameās release.
We have Simon, the titular character that needed a bit of a face tweak, as shown in the before and after image. Our team had to make sure our edit was cohesive with another 3D model that had the right tone and feel.
Shaders
Unity shaders posed quite the challenge, since the geometry we were looking to showcase would just look a bit off with this cell shaded style. Especially going from what was set-up in Blender Nodes, to how Unity interprets things. One small tweak was making the character’s eye lid a slightly darker shade, to emulate a shadow and keep the look cohesive.
Animation
Now, onto something less technical and a bit more fun. Another small element of the game we had the pleasure of working on, was the secret hamster š The animation and certain quirks of the little critter can be observed when encountered.
š¹ You can see in this youtube video, someone found him.
Animation
š¶ And of course, we canāt forget to mention the best boy here, a Foxhound we modeled and rigged. And yes, you can pet the dog š
Marketing
And one of our most unique additions, the marketing material – we managed to arrange a few fixes for Simon’s animation in a 3D billboard AD. Maybe someone can find some footage of how it looked when it was public.
Overall it was a very enjoyable collaboration, with very clear and concise instructions. We are proud to have worked on elements of this awesome game!Ā
